Microsoft Q1 FY27: Azure Accelerates While Capex Waits on Supply
Ben Bajarin ยท October 29, 2026
Creative Strategies earnings read | October 28, 2026 | Microsoft fiscal first-quarter 2027 results and conference call, October 28, 2026 Microsoft accelerated Azure to 48% growth, guided to 49% to 50% next quarter, and said demand still exceeds supply, while capex came in below its own guide and the calendar 2026 figure moved down to about $170 billion because outside capacity it had contracted arrived late. Operating view: The bear reading of this quarter is that lower capex, a 12% decline in commercial bookings and a flat backlog mean Microsoft is pulling back on AI. We think each of those lines has a supply or timing explanation that Microsoft gave on the call, and the demand lines point the other way.
